2014 BMW X5 arrives in India

It’s bigger and better this time. Yes, the all new 2014 BMW X5 has arrived in a much smarter avatar. The German car major has launched the much awaited next-generation X5 SUV in India. The luxurious SUV has got major cosmetic changes to enter its third generation. BMW has launched only the diesel version of 2014 X5 for now. Indian market can expect more variants in near future. The latest X5 will be available for sale at all BMW dealerships across the nation from June this year. ‘God of Cricket’ Sachin Tendulkar graced the launching ceremony.

Joining the BMW’s X-Series in India, X5 will compete against Mercedes-Benz GL-Class and Audi Q7. The next-gen X5 has got smart exterior and interior changes. Technicality and size though have seen major changes in the luxury SUV. The new X5 is technically more spacious and carry a larger size and less weight than its predecessor because BMW smartly has used several weight-saving measures to make the new X5 light and agile.

The 2014 X5 sports bigger LED headlights, 3-Series inspired kidney grille, extended front bumper with fog lamps and air curtains to improve aerodynamics. Side and rear look sharp in the refreshed SUV.

The all new X5 is 29mm longer and 5mm wider making its more spacious inside. It gets a refreshed dashboard with improved centre console fitted with advanced infotainment features. It gets a 10.5-inch iDrive system with resolution reversing camera display. The whole interior has got a smart finish. The SUV is available in 5-seat and 7-seat options.

The luxuriously powerful SUV will feature a 3.0-litre in-line six-cylinder turbocharged diesel engine mated to 8-speed automatic transmission. It’s good enough to produce a power of 255bhp and a peak torque of 560Nm with an all wheel drive system. The powerful SUV takes about 6.9 seconds to reach from 0-100kmph with a top speed of 250kmph. The new X5 impresses with its fuel efficiency as well. BMW claims that the third generation X5 with its refined engine will return an average of 15.5kmpl on highway.

To provide an unforgettable driving experience, the locally assembled X5 comes in three driving modes – Comfort, Sport and Sport+. BMW has also offered additional color options for the next-gen X5. It’ll be available in non-metallic Alpine White color and five metallic color shades – Imperial Blue Brilliant Effect, Sparkling Brown, Space Grey and Black Sapphire.

The all new X5 has joined the BMW’s SUV range in India which includes X1, X3 and X6.

Termed as Sports Activity Vehicle due to its off-road capabilities, the 2014 X5 was also showcased at this year’s Delhi Auto Expo in February. BMW has priced the new X5 3.0 diesel model at Rs. 70.9 lakh. Though its base price is expected to start from Rs. 68 lakh for 5-seat and Rs. 72 lakh for 7-seat. The price tag looks little steep though but the super luxury SUV deserves every penny with its elegant design, performance oriented engine and smart features. BMW assembles the new X5 at its Haryana plant with Completely Knocked Down (CKD) units imported from USA.

Customers can book the new X5 for Rs. 5 lakh and deliveries are expected to happen as early as June.
